Your sackful of God

More than Three Dollars

I recently received my August subscription to Voice of the Martyrs and was challenged by this quote from Wilbur Rees. I have edited it in an effort to modernize and personalize it.

"I would like to buy $3 worth of God please. Not enough to explode my soul or disturb my sleep, but just enough to equal a [Starbucks mocha] or a [warm day at the beach]. I don't want enough of God to make me love [a manipulative woman] or [serve one less fortunate than me]. I want ecstasy, not transformation. I want warmth of the womb, not a new birth. I want a pound of the Eternal in a paper sack. I would like to buy $3 worth of God, please."

The director of VOM commented after sharing this quote, "We can starve ourselves, our congregation and our Christian denominations if our sackful of God is too small."

Is your sackful too small? Is mine?
