Birthday Boat Day

Today Mitchell turns 11. Man, time flies! He is now in our church youth group. How is this possible?

His party was yesterday, at Grandma and Grandpa's house on the lake.  He and four of his friends went tubing and swimming and I had the easiest birthday party to host ever. My dad drove the boat, I rode along and then got my own turn on the tube, we had watermelon on the dock, and Dairy Queen cake on the deck.

Unfortunately, I forgot my fancy camera, so you are stuck with what I captured with my cell phone.

the middle and lower deck

The boys discovered it is just as fun to fall off the tube as to stay on. Then they discovered how difficult heaving yourself back on the tube is when you are in the middle of the lake.

They later convinced Megan and Madison to fall off on purpose and as the boat circled to pick the girls up, the boys cheered them on and gave them thumbs up for a risk well taken.

A fun time was had by all.

The third week of June is crazy with birthdays and our anniversary and Father's Day, so as I planned Mitchell's party, I was making reservations for a B&B and preparing for Robb's party. He turned 40 on Saturday! We've been prepping and mowing and weeding and scavenging the farm for rustic decor. Frugality and the threat of rain were inspiration to convert a corn crib into a party room. I can't wait to show it to you!

I promise to use my good camera!

Colors, boogies, and boy

You Capture this week is about colors. I didn't have to look very far to find some. My living room floor has been covered in primary colors all week. Drat those legos. Thankfully, I haven't stepped on one yet, or they would all go in the trash. You know what I'm talking about. Nothing hurts like the dickens more than tripping on a pile of these plastic blocks.

Anyway, I also found these lovely pictures of Mitchell sporting color on himself. What, you say? You don't see any color? You've got to look a little closer to see it. Here's a hint. His nose. Guess what that is? UmmmHmmm. He has nearly daily bloody noses in the winter and hasn't yet learned to look in the mirror after one. Nice. I need to introduce him to those Boogie Wipes I received at Cupcake '10.

Next Up. A boy who is tired of having his picture taken, but not tired of playing with his sister's Stawberry Shortcake stamps from her McDonald's Happy Meal. Thus the color on his fingers.

Without further ado, this ends the rather pathetic, interior design lacking, tour of color in my house.

To see more interesting pictures of color visit I Should Be Folding Laundry. Drat, now I just remembered what I'm supposed to be doing right now.

Blissful Quiet

We went to the library today. This is my reward: a few moments of peace.

Maybe my dreams of blissfully quiet afternoons spent reading will soon come true.

One can hope.

Been playing with my camera. Top one, lighting not so good. Bottom: getting better. :)

Alphabitty Moments: Boyhood initiation-mowing

My son turned 10 this summer and his father deemed him old enough to learn to drive the Xmark. He takes his job very seriously and he does it well.

Alphabitty Moments: The letter G

It seems this boy only grows taller. He's a rail! He takes after his mother's high metabolism. Poor thing only wants to wear pants these days to hide his bony knees and skinny legs. Someday he'll be grateful~ when he's 30 years old and doesn't have to worry about watching his weight!
